    The location

Holmby Hills is located in the Westside of Los Angeles, in the Westwood district. It is bounded by Beverly Hills, Bel Air (the other two in the Platinum Triangle) and Westwood. Wilshire Boulevard runs to the south.

From Holmby Hills, Downtown Los Angeles is approximately 22 minutes away by car. LAX is also relatively close, about a 19-minute drive from the neighborhood.

“The ultimate in residential estate development”

The area known today as Holmby Hills was part of the Tongva homeland, which has been so for about 8,000 years. The area was taken in the name of the Spanish empire by Maximo Alanis, a soldier and the grantee of the Rancho San Jose de Buenos Ayres.

Alanis sold the property, which encompassed nearly 4,440 acres, to Benjamin Davis Wilson in the mid-18th century. Wilson then sold half of the ranch John W. Wolfskill, who was related to one of the leading pioneers.

In this change of ownership, the ranch was known as Wolfskill ranch. About 400 acres of it were sold to Arthur Letts, Sr., who planned to develop the land into a neighborhood called Holmby Hills, inspired by an English hamlet. He died before he could complete his aim, and so son-in-law Harold Janss took over to realize the dream.

By the end of the 1920s, Holmby Hills’ first mansions were built. It didn’t take long for Hollywood industry leaders and other celebrities to come and live in Holmby Hills.

    The real estate market

Holmby Hills real estate is a treasure trove filled with some of Los Angeles’ most historic, iconic, and expensive properties.

Some of the most notable homes in the neighborhood include the Playboy Mansion, the Fleur de Lys (inspired by the Palace of Versailles), and the Manor at Holmby Hills. Covering over 55,000 square feet, it is the largest home in Los Angeles and among the biggest in the country. These extravagant properties are a testament to the luxury of homes for sale in Holmby Hills.

    The Holmby Hills lifestyle

Like Bel Air, Holmby Hills is primarily residential but conveniently close to a plethora of Los Angeles’ shopping, dining, and entertainment options.
